Products for Home-Service Owners

Last updated:

BGS Strategies helps your home-service business book more calls, improve sales performance, and build a stronger management team. These five products are the playbooks, tools and training your own people use to do it, built for independent HVAC and plumbing companies in the United States and Canada.

Each one answers a different problem, and the point of this page is to help you work out which problem is yours before you spend anything.

Live every Thursday, 11 AM to noon Central. Register and get the book free.

01 / Why these exist

Why These Exist

Hiring a coach is one way in. It is not the only way, and for plenty of owners it is not the first way.

Some problems do not need a consultant. They need one standard, written down, that every person on your team runs the same way. That is what a playbook is. Some problems need a number you have never actually worked out, starting with what a job costs you before you make a dollar. That is what the Toolkit is for. And some problems are not a script at all. They are a manager who got promoted off the truck and was never taught how to manage.

So start where your problem is. Most owners do not need all of them at once. Take the next step, not every step.

02 / The products

The Products

Every product below is built to be used by your people and chosen by you. Read the page that matches your loudest problem, then ask.

Playbook

CSR Master Playbook

The person answering your phone decides how much of your advertising money turns into work.

DetailsShow less

The person answering your phone decides how much of your advertising money turns into work. This playbook is the training program for that person: twenty-four lessons in two parts, from phone etiquette and call control to objection handling, membership enrollment, emergency calls and call quality, set out in eight sections that each end with a badge, with weekly scorecards and monthly role-plays. The approach is customer friendly and low pressure. Give the caller good information and make it easy to say yes. Start here if you are paying for leads and losing them at the front desk. The full detail is on the CSR Master Playbook page.

Playbook

CHOICE Service Call Playbook

As far as the customer is concerned, your technician is the company.

DetailsShow less

As far as the customer is concerned, your technician is the company. This playbook gives your techs six steps, one for each letter of CHOICE, from character and a happy greeting through inspecting, diagnosing and offering options to complete care, each with a checklist, a quiz and a progress tracker, plus role-plays, ride-along forms and customer communication scripts. Its line is that the customer always has a choice, and five star service is a profit argument, not a manners argument. It is the accessible first purchase in the line and the most natural introduction to what team training feels like. The detail sits on the CHOICE Service Call Playbook page.

Playbook

CHOOSE2 Replacement Sales Playbook

You are not in the house when the quote is presented, so you do not know what is being said at the kitchen table.

DetailsShow less

You are not in the house when the quote is presented, so you do not know what is being said at the kitchen table. This playbook is Kerry's residential replacement process, from the service call to the install being scheduled: seven steps spelling CHOOSE2, from connecting before you arrive and open discovery to sharing the science, exploring options and empowering the decision, with scripts for explaining airflow, comfort and energy cost. We guide the decision; we don't push the sale. The customer still decides. Ask about this one when your close rate swings from person to person and nobody can tell you why. Read the CHOOSE2 Replacement Sales Playbook page.

Toolkit

Home-Service Profit and Performance Toolkit

Revenue is up and you are not sure profit is.

DetailsShow less

Revenue is up and you are not sure profit is. This is the set of tools for the owner: the Business Growth Playbook, to find where the company stands and what to fix first; a Growth Roadmap from $1 million to $3 million; a fifteen-minute Daily Huddle Guide; planning pages for the day and the week; and a short guide to indoor air quality. Ask about this one when the bank balance is the only number you trust. The detail is on the Home-Service Profit and Performance Toolkit page.

Operating system

Elite HVAC Service Manager System

This is the premium training in the line, and it is for one person: whoever runs your service department.

DetailsShow less

This is the premium training in the line, and it is for one person: whoever runs your service department. Twenty modules take that person from service manager identity, KPIs, technician scorecards and ride-along coaching through dispatch, pricing confidence, callback reduction and recruiting to scaling the department. It is offered self-guided, and it is offered with coaching alongside it. Ask about this one when you want the service department run by somebody other than you, and when the problem is no longer a script but a manager. The detail is on the Elite HVAC Service Manager System page.

03 / Where to start

Where to Start

There is an order to this, and it is not the order of the price list.

Start with the free Blue Collar Blueprint community on Skool. It costs nothing, it is Kerry's, and it is the cheapest way to find out how he thinks before you spend a dollar with him.

Then take the playbook that fixes your loudest problem. Phone ringing and not booking, that is the CSR Master Playbook. Every technician running the call their own way, that is the CHOICE Service Call Playbook. Quotes going out and never coming back, that is the CHOOSE2 Replacement Sales Playbook. One playbook, one team, one standard, and then leave it alone long enough to work.

Add the Toolkit next. Once the front line is running to a standard, the numbers are the only way to tell whether the standard is the right one and where the money is still leaking.

Step up to the Elite HVAC Service Manager System last. When scripts are no longer the constraint and the constraint is the person managing the department, that is the training that builds one.

04 / Who is behind these

Who Is Behind These

Kerry Webb has coached and consulted home-service owners since 2008. He has also spent years in front of contractor audiences: a keynote for SMACNA in Maui in 2017, "Creating Customers for Life" at the ComforTech national conference in 2016, and the Business Boot Camps for Owners he created and keynoted in Dallas four times a year from 2011 to 2016.

He is not a motivational speaker. He worked for the Texas Highway Department and a construction company when he was young, but he is not a licensed tradesman. What he brings to HVAC and plumbing companies is business management, applied to the way this industry actually runs. Trade bodies like the Air Conditioning Contractors of America and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association set the standards for the work. BGS Strategies works on the business around it.

His track record: 300+ business owners coached, 1,000+ technicians and leaders trained, and $170M+ in revenue growth for clients across 37 states.

What do these products cost?

The business assessment is free, and Level 1 of the Skool community is free. It contains the 7 Step Method, and the community on Skool is free to join. There is no trial period and no card required.

To get the full set of the 7 Step Tools, serious clients move to Level 2 membership on Skool at $295 a month. If you want to fast-track your growth and success, sign up for the 90-Day Plan at $7,500. To learn more, register for the $100,000 Conversation webinar.

Do I have to hire a coach to buy one of these?

No. That is the point of them. Every product on this page is meant to work in your company without Kerry in the room. Each is written to be handed over, run and measured on its own, with checklists, scorecards or planning pages built in, and with no coaching attached.

Which one should I start with?

Start with whichever problem is costing you the most this month. If you cannot tell, take the assessment or come to the Thursday session and describe your week out loud. Most owners already know the answer before they finish the sentence, and they are usually right.

Who on my team actually uses these?

Your customer service rep works through the CSR playbook, your technicians use the service playbook, whoever sits at the kitchen table uses the sales playbook, and your service manager works through the Elite HVAC Service Manager System. You own the Toolkit, and the huddle guide and planning pages go to whoever runs the day to day.

Are these the same thing as the 90-Day Plan?

No. The 90-Day Plan is a 90 day engagement with Kerry working inside your company. These products are things your people use on their own. They fit together, and owners often run a playbook first and bring Kerry in later, but buying one is not buying the other.

Do you work with trades other than HVAC and plumbing?

The site leads with HVAC and plumbing because that is where the work and the track record are. The contact form carries an option for other home-service trades, so if you run something adjacent, ask. Kerry will tell you honestly whether the material fits your business.
